How to e-mail exercise data using PPP SW4

To send your exercises via e-mail you can use all e-mail programs. With MAPI based e-mail programs (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express, Netscape Communicator, Yahoo Messenger, Hotmail or Eudora) the e-mail program is opened and the e-mail for sending the exercise information is created automatically.

When using e-mail programs that do not support MAPI e-mail system, for example Lotus Notes, the e-mail must be created manually. The user should create a new e-mail and attach the exercise data package automatically created by Polar Precision Performance SW.
The exercises and the heart rate files that can be seen in the Calendar are included to the zipped file.

How to make the e-mail

1. The e-mail is defined in the Send Exercise Data via E-Mail box. You can access the box in three different ways:

  • Select File E-mail Exercise Data.
  • Select the desired day in the Calendar. Then right-click and select the E-mail Exercise Data in the shortcut menu that appears.
  • Open the Training Diary dialog for the desired day e.g. by double-clicking the day in the Calendar view. Then open the Day Information page and click the E-mail Exercise Data button in the lower right corner.

2. Define the date range.

3. Click the OK button. The e-mail program is opened and the e-mail is created automatically.

  • If your e-mail program is not MAPI based, the e-mail sending must be performed manually. Open a new e-mail message. Then attach the created files for the e-mail. You find them in the Outbox folder under your person folder in the Polar Precision Performance folder. The Outbox folder is located by default C:\Program Files\Polar\Polar Precision Performance\Person's name\Outbox. Attach all files in the folder (the .zip file(s) and the .ppd file).
  • Include also the information text in the end of the Send Exercise Data via E-Mail box. The text can be copied to the Windows Clipboard by selecting the text, right-clicking and then selecting Copy in the shortcut menu.

4. Finish and send the e-mail.

If you are using the Microsoft Outlook version 97, 98 or 2000 that is included e.g. the to Microsoft Office package you need to disable the automatic mail system detection and create the e-mail manually.
  • Select Options Preferences and open the General page. From the Misc Settings section, untick the Automatic Mail System Detection box.
If your e-mail program supports MAPI e-mailing system but the it is not opened automatically, check that the Automatic Mail System Detection feature is on.

The Selected day's exercise data item is used for sending the exercise data of one day. It is enabled only when opening the Send Exercise Data via E-Mail box from the Calendar or from the Diary.
The e-mail program that is automatically used with Polar Precision Performance software is set by default in the Microsoft Internet Explorer program settings. You can change the default e-mail program in the following way:

  • Open MS Internet Explorer. Then select Tools Internet Options and open the Programs page. You can change the e-mailing program in the E-mail field.
The automatic e-mailing feature can be used for sending up to two years of exercise data at one time.

How to open the exercise data in the target computer

To open the mailed exercise data in the Polar Precision Performance SW in the target computer e.g. your coach's computer, you need to extract the received files.
1. Place the received files to the Inbox folder under sender's person folder. Person folders are named based on person's name. You find the person folders under the Polar Precision Performance folder.
2. Start the Polar Precision Performance SW. The files are unzipped automatically to the right locations. If you have the software open when attaching the files to the Inbox folder close the software and then reopen it to extract the files.
When the files have been extracted they will be deleted automatically from the Inbox folder.

When you are attaching the e-mailed exercise data for the first time the person should be created to the appropriate team. For more information of creating a new person see the page How to add a new person in the software online help. The first and last name information is needed for the new person only. The other information is filled automatically in the unzipping process. To open the software online help select Help - Contents in the Polar Precision Performance software.
