1. I've lost my instructions
for my MIO watch. Where can I get a new instruction
manual?
You can download and print out instructions for your MIO watch
on this page.
2. I have followed the basic
heart rate instructions but I’m still having difficulty
getting a reading. What can I do?
Here are some tips to help you get a heart rate reading.
- Make sure the back of the MIO watch has good firm contact
against your skin by fastening it securely. If you have a slender
wrist please move the watch up away from your wrist bone.
- Press the sensors with your finger pads. Too much pressure
will create too much muscle noise, which makes it hard for the
watch to read your ECG signal. Please note that only the bottom
sensor on the watch face will depress. The top sensor does not depress, so
simply rest your finger against the top sensor while gently
depressing the bottom sensor.
- If you are pressing the sensors correctly the screen will
change and display a flashing heart icon and will read
“BPM”. Press gently and hold until you see this
screen. Keep holding the sensors for a few seconds until you get
a heart rate reading.
- If you are holding an item in your hand or hanging a heavy
item such as gym bag from your arms, this may interfere with
MIO’s ability to read your heart rate.
- Keep your arm low, relaxed and close to your body. If you
raise your arm above your heart this will slow down the heart
rate function as your signal will be traveling against gravity.
If you are moving while taking your heart rate, try to keep you
fingers as steady on the sensors as possible.
- Try moistening your fingers and the back sensor of the face.
It is okay to allow perspiration to build up against the watch;
in fact this will likely allow MIO to read your heart rate more
quickly. If your skin is dry this will affect the speed of the
heart rate readings.
- If you are still unsuccessful after following these tips,
please contact our customer service team at 1-877-566-4636 or by
email at customerservice@miowatch.com for further
assistance.
3. My light doesn’t seem
to work. What can I do?
To work the light, please follow these instructions.
- Step One: Press the LIGHT button (top left hand side of the
watch.) Check to see if the screen is illuminated. Cover the face
of the watch or test in a dark area as the backlight may not be
easily visible in well-lit environments.
- Step Two: If the backlight does not go on by following step
one, press and hold the STOP button (bottom right hand side of
the watch.) The display on the watch’s face will read HOLD
and the watch will beep (takes approx. 2 seconds.) This will
activate the light function on some MIO models (not applicable to
all.) Then repeat step one to use the light.
- If your light still does not work please contact customer
service at 1-877-566-4636 or by email at customerservice@miowatch.com
Please note that the light is
not a constant backlight display. The watch is only illuminated
for a few seconds at a time. The light works this way in order to
preserve the life of the battery.
4. What are the signs that my battery may
be dying?
There are several signs that you may need to replace the battery
in your MIO.
- If it takes a longer period of time to get a heart rate
reading than you have become accustomed to.
- If the display on your MIO is blank.
- If the display on your watch is frozen on a particular screen
and does not change.
- If your watch emits a constant loud beep.
5. How do I replace a dead
battery?
We recommend that you take your MIO to a trusted jeweler or watch
repairperson to change the battery. Fast Fix Jewelery and Watch Repairs is
an authorized MIO battery change center and has been trained on
how to properly replace a MIO Watch battery. However, if there is
not a Fast Fix location in your area, please take your watch to a
trusted jeweler or watch repairperson.
To locate a Fast Fix near you
The jeweler/repairperson will first test to ensure your
battery is indeed dead. The battery in a MIO should last up to
one year from date of manufacture, however this may vary
according to usage. Frequent use of the light and/or
stopwatch/chronograph will significantly reduce the battery life.
Please see the link below that clearly illustrates how to change
and replace MIO’s battery. MIO uses a standard watch
battery (CR2032.) Please print these instructions or take the
instructions included in the MIO user guide with you to a trusted
jeweler or watch repairperson. If you do not have access to a
printer please contact customer service at 1-877-566-4636 or by
email at customerservice@miowatch.com and we can
arrange to have these instructions faxed to you (US and Canada
only.)
*Please note that whether you bring your watch to Fast Fix or any
another location, you should remind the jeweler that MIO is a
water resistant watch and needs to be resealed and tested for
water resistance post battery change.

6. How does the LAP function
work?
The LAP function only operates to show periods of elapsed time.
It does not serve to store or save lap times. When LAP is
pressed, the time on the clock is stopped on the display, but it
is still running in the background. When LAP is pressed again,
the chrono display will return to the total time that has elapsed
since the chronograph was started.
For the LAP function to operate, start the
chronograph/stopwatch feature. Do this by changing the mode
(using the MODE button) until you reach the
stopwatch/chronograph. Press the SET/START button to activate the
stopwatch. The LAP function only operates to show periods of
elapsed time. It does not serve to store or save lap times. The
LAP function will show you how much time has elapsed since you
pressed the LAP button, allowing you to time a lap. To calculate
the lap time, press the MODE/LAP button (top right) while the
stopwatch is running. Make a mental note of the time value shown
on the display. When LAP is pressed, the time on the clock is
stopped on the display, but the stopwatch/chrono continues to
run. When LAP is pressed again, the stopwatch/chrono display will
return back to the total time that has elapsed since the
chronograph was started. Subtract that time value from the value
when LAP is pressed and this will tell you your lap time.
To stop the LAP display on the face of the watch, press the
MODE/LAP button. Press STOP to stop the chronograph.
8. Can I check the time while
I am using the stopwatch/chronograph mode?
To check the time while in the stopwatch/chronograph without
having to exit from the stopwatch/chronograph, simply press the
SET/START button (bottom left hand side of the watch) and the
time will be displayed and within a few seconds the screen will
return to the stopwatch/chronograph mode.
To stop the LAP display on the face of the watch, press the
MODE/LAP button. Press STOP to stop the chronograph.
9. I can’t seem to find
the birth date screen. How do I access this screen?
Since your birth date does not change and you only need to set it
once, the birth date is stored behind the date/calendar screen.
However, you may access this screen after setting it initially if
you want to make a change. To access the birth date screen from
the time screen, press the MODE/LAP button once to go to the
date/calendar screen. Press the SET/START button and hold it
until the word ‘HOLD’ appears on the screen and the
watch beeps once. Scroll through the date screen by pressing the
SET/START button once for each digit until the day of the week is
flashing. Press the SET/START button one more time: the entire
display will change to the birthday mode and the year of birth
will be flashing. Set this as you would the calendar and the
watch will store and save your birth date and use this to
calculate your age. You will see a gender icon flash in the top
right hand corner of the screen, select the male or female and
press the SET/START button.
7. How do I clear the
“calories in” display on the MIO Shape, Shape Select
and Shape Select Petite?
On your MIO Shape, Shape Select and Shape Select Petite, press
the MODE button two times to get the “Cal IN” screen.
Press and hold the SET/START button until ‘HOLD’
appears on the screen. Keep holding until the watch beeps once
and then beeps once again (total of two beeps) then release the
button. The display should read 0000.
The calorie in value does not clear itself. You must manually
clear the value whenever you want to reset it back to 0 calories
in.
