This has been a great product. I have used it for 1 month now and found it a great way to monitor my workout. The free web based workout logger has provided a worry free way of tracking my progress.

The Polar F6 more than exceeded my expectations. Not only does it come with a 2 year warranty, a coded transmitter, and a fitness guide book, it provides you with a complete web based training system.

When my previous HR monitor failed for the second time, I decided to switch brands to Polar, since I had heard many good things about them. However, while I was expecting a basic unit for this price, I was surprised to find that I had a complete fitness training system. And despite the wide range of options available, setup was as easy as taking it out of the box and pushing a button.

I then went to their web site and downloaded their uplink tool. This allowed me to enter my personal fitness stats into the computer and transfer them into the watch. Weight, height, age, etc. were all there. It also transfered the computer time setting to provide accurate watch functions.

With my first workout came the real test. Here, setup was again a breeze. It automatically sensed the HR transmitter from my old HR monitor, so I didn't even need to take the new one out of the box. I then pressed a button on the watch to begin exercise. When I finished, I pushed another button to stop.

Finally, I downloaded their weblink software which uploads the data to the web via soniclink. Basically, the watch makes a noise like a fax machine and transfers all your exercise data to the Internet. It worked flawlessly the first time. The information was then added to a customized cycling training program on a company website called polarcyclingcoach. Keep in mind, the F6 is not a cycling specific unit. It does not monitor speed, cadence, or distance. However, if you have a basic cycling computer with these functions, you can manually add this data to your online workout analysis.

For non-cyclists, they have another site called polarfitnesstrainer. Both sites are linked, so you only need to enter the data once, even if you switch between the sites. The cycling site has features that help you train for a one day event, like preparing for a century (100 mile ride) or a race. The most amazing thing is that all these extra features are absolutely free. You just need to register and away you go.

The only drawback is that the display is somewhat dim and cannot be easily read under some light conditions. Better contrast would be nice. Also, keep in mind that the soniclink software only works on Microsoft Windows. It will not work with Linux or Mac OSX. I know of at least one cyclist who uses Linux, but keeps an old Windows PC around just so he can use the soniclink software.
